Introduction/Goals
The purpose of
this project is to solve the long-time question that has been asked over and
over in the soccer community: Which
style of kick is the strongest? Of
course the preference of the individual would determine his opinion as well as
his skill of the styles. The two
styles that we’re studying are the shooters stance, the base foot planted near
the ball, or the clearing stance, the base foot is planted somewhat farther away
from the ball. We want to find out
which is better by determining the velocity of the ball as it leaves the foot.
Also, we will measure and calculate more values such as acceleration and
momentum to determine such factors as: the conversion of momentum of the system,
the speed of the leg after contact with the ball, and the total mass of the
section of the kicking foot that is used to propel the ball forward.

This is a photo of the Clearing Stance. As you can see the toe is
angled toward the camera and the body is angled back and away.
The side of the shoe (insole) will make contact with the ball. |

· This is the Shooter’s Stance. The angle of the toe is pointed down and the top of the shoe will make contact. The knee is over the ball and the shoulders and head are in front of the ball position. |
