Analysis and Conclusions
When we first started the project, we wanted to focus mainly on the point of collision of streams of liquid. By following this objective, we obtained many interesting photographs of the collisions of liquids. However, we were disappointed in how the liquid nitrogen pictures turned out. The pictures from Trial 2 are probably the most interesting, both from a scientific and aesthetic view. They show in great detail what happens when two streams of water collide. Through the pictures, we found that an oval-shaped flat area of water is created when the streams collide. The relatively straight streams of water are combined to form a diagonal stream who's path is a parabola. This is a good demonstration of the resolution of vectors in 2-dimentional projectile motion physics. The picture that is on the LIQUIDS homepage shows the streams actually curving around each other. Through this investigation, we were able to see an everyday natural event that cannot normally be seen with the human eye.
