In-Depth Description of Technique
Project Description - We ignited a balloon filled with hydrogen gas at a right angle with respect to the camera. The flash (when used with the digital still camera) was set to the left of the balloon (refer to Set-up Diagram) with respect to the camera on the opposite side of the igniter (a meter stick with a candle attached to the end), causing the flash of light to come from the left side of the picture. We set up the timing (location of the sound trigger) before acquiring images. We used the digital video camera to acquire our images for tests 1 and 2. Then we used a digital still camera with a high shutter speed combined with a sound trigger and flash to expose the balloon along with the fire for tests 3 and 4.
